The X's and O's of Freight Management
At DCL, freight management is a value-added service offered to our customers. By using DCL freight accounts, customers enjoy not only competitive pricing but also many benefits including:
Substantial Discounts off Book Rates
Our large annual package volumes provide DCL with substantial discounts off carrier book rates. As a result, we are able to meet or exceed pricing that customers would receive independently. Because typical carrier discount schedules are composed of a base rate and an incentive based on volume, it is important to maintain the annualized volume. Because of our predictable volume, DCL can assume this risk and quote a fixed percentage discount to customers and eliminate this uncertainty factor for customers.
Full Service Freight Offering
DCL maintains major contracts with FedEx, UPS and DHL, among others to provide package and bulk freight services for domestic and international shipments including LTL and mail consolidation services. Maintaining volume agreements with multiple carriers offers customers protection from any unexpected interruption in service. In addition, because of our distribution experience, we can analyze your business model and make recommendations on types of service levels and carriers – recommendations that align with your objectives and keep shipping costs down.
Monthly Billing and 30-Day Terms
DCL freight is billed monthly along with the fulfillment billing and subject to DCL’s standard net 30-day terms. This is in contrast to the direct weekly billing by carriers with a payment due in 15 days. The additional time provides an added cash flow to customers and aligns the freight and fulfillment billing from DCL.
Distribution Support
DCL distribution coordinators are experienced with all major freight carriers and their associated routing guides. The majority of tracking questions arising between the carrier and the customer are handled by DCL distribution service coordinators freeing customers from this tedious and administrative task.
Easy Freight Reconciliation and Accurate Cost Allocation
Each customer shipment has the freight cost attached to it so there is a convenient and a trackable way of reconciliation. Since the freight cost is directly attached for each shipment, customers eliminate the need for any allocation calculations. All freight costs are visible in eFactory. Furthermore, customers save on the administration burden of reconciling the carrier’s weekly bill.
