FREMONT, CA. - With a new partnership in the medical device industry, DCL proves its ability to provide a high quality solution for kitting and configuration extends beyond consumer electronics and software. This new customer is a medical device company (MD) that has revolutionized how women and men remove unwanted hair by manufacturing a consumer laser product that is sold over the counter and fits in one hand. MD received their long-awaited FDA approval in June 2008 and soon, demand for their commercially-viable product exploded.
Due to larger than expected end consumer and retailer demand for their product, MD was looking for a scalable solution that could maintain the high quality standards already established. DCL was selected as their outsourcing partner to provide product configuration, retail kitting and B2C and B2B fulfillment.
Because of the high dollar value of their products, a 100% count is performed by weight scale upon receipt of the devices. The devices are kitted in retail packaging by work order, specific to each region that they are available – USA, Japan, UK and Spain. Each laser device is configured to the regional requirement to ensure it's geographical functionality. Due to stringent FDA requirements, the USA laser must also be programmed by DCL to a skin sensor device that enables / disables the laser based on skin color and tone. All serial numbers are captured during kitting and both an electronic and physical record of the serial numbers are maintained per FDA requirements.
DCL handles all B2C and B2B fulfillment, shipping to QVC, Nordstrom’s, and other high-end retailers. The product is activated when the consumer dials into the call center and the operator matches the customer order to the DCL-sent ship confirmation file with the associated serial number.
Leaning on DCL’s outsourcing experience has freed up more time and resources for MD to focus on the challenges of generating top-line growth. “2009 is critical for us; we know that partnering with a strong solution provider such as DCL will help us move to the next level”, says the MD’s Director of Operations.
